YOU are my Sunshine.
It’s been raining here in Virginia for days. This inspired me to work on some fun pieces to brighten things up.
New this week is, “YOU” are my Sunshine. It makes me smile and reminds me that the Lord is my Sunshine, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield;” (Psalm 84:11). Only His light will stand forever. He transforms our lives and makes all things joyful.
Also, “YOU” represents the ones we love. I know it’s easy for me to forget how much of a gift my husband is in my life when I want things to go my way or when my husband is not as “sunny” as I would like him to be. A glance at this, helps keep it all in perspective. 🙂
While looking up the lyrics to You Are My Sunshine, I came across Johnny Cash and June Carter singing a duet (Click on their names below to listen). Love them singing…a perfect compliment to the piece!
“You Are My Sunshine”
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away
You Are My Sunshine – Johnny Cash with June Carter
Although, I would love to keep it, it will be heading to Vintage Lynchburg next month to add some sunshine to another person’s space.
It was made (Remade) from a 14″x14″ board that I sanded down to remove a glued paper design. It took more time than I wanted to sand it down and remove all the paper, but I had in mind the sun design for it, so I kept on going until it was smooth.
Then, I added several layers of grey (Pewter and Dove) and sanded it a bit by hand with 120-grit sandpaper.
After several layers (of various shades) of yellow, the sun was painted.
I designed the “You” font on paper and then transferred it onto the sun…and painted it a sunny yellow. At first, I thought about white for the letters, but my husband mentioned to add a brighter yellow to the sun. This sparked the idea to do the letters in the bright yellow. So glad he said it needed brighter yellow…one of the reasons he is my sunshine!

Michelle, you choice of background color makes me think of galvanized tin, like an old sign, which I love! And the suggestion of a lighter yellow for the graphic was brilliant! Looks like you and your husband make a great team. Gorgeous piece, I’m sure it won’t be for sale for long!

Awe…thank you!!! It does resemble tin…cool, love metal! He does have a good eye, even though sometimes, I get a little irritated–because he is usually right and I have to change things around!!! Lol
