Simple Thanksgiving Centerpiece

I just finished creating a Thanksgiving centerpiece to add an element of peace and beauty to a small round table (breakfast nook) in my kitchen.

I love a rustic vintage look so that was the main theme for the piece. Also, I did not want to spend a lot of time putting it together.

From start to finish, it took me less than 10 minutes to make and I love the simple elegance it brings to my home. It refreshes my soul every time I am in the kitchen.

It’s fun to make your own displays. It works best if you have at least three different items to assemble together. Also, natural elements are perfect to use (wood, rocks, shells, branches etc).

I used an old wooden box.

Next, something that reminds you of this season (pumpkins, colorful leaves, berries, etc).

I used garland that had orange and dark berries on it. Plus, I had brightly fall color leaves that I must have bought at a yard sale or on clearance (the only way I buy these times). 🙂

Last, but not least, are candles I had left over from another event. Candles are great for any centerpiece and add elegance and warmth to a room (just remember to NEVER leave them unattended when lit).

My candles were too short to fit inside my box, so I flipped the box upside down.

To make a place for my candles to rest on (give them a home), I placed the leaves in threes in three different spots on the box.

I placed a candle on top of each spot.

Then, I wrapped my berry garland around the base of the box.

Since I had some left over leaves, I used them to fill in a few gaps under the garland.

What a happy and welcoming place to eat breakfast now and to get my heart rejoicing in the simple things that make a difference!

“Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power
and the glory and the majesty and the splendor,
for everything in heaven and earth is yours.
Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.”
1 Chronicles 29:11-13

Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to count our blessings and to be grateful for the Lord’s provision in our lives.

After all, we are here because of Him. He created us and loves us! He is worthy of all our praise!

God has given us His Word to know Him and be known. A verse that helps me reflect on the Lord’s goodness and to remind me of the importance of having a grateful and thankful heart, is found in Psalm 100:

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.” (KJV)

The Lord wants us to come into his presence and meet with him. To enjoy and celebrate with song as we worship Him, our Creator.

For He is the only one that can truly heal any brokenness in my heart, bring comfort to the things in life that don’t make sense, and make all things new…make a way when there seems to be no way!!!

I am sure this is why I gravitate to restore and give new life to found objects. It brings me such joy to give something new purpose and meaning.

It is a reminder on how the Lord must see me (“see ALL of us”). If I can find joy in it, what joy it must bring God to give us new purpose, meaning and restore our hearts and lives!!!!

I can see why we are called “the display of His Splendor” as recorded in verse 3 of Isaiah 61.

Spending time for Him today…His light makes all the difference!
