♥ A Kid at Heart
Recently, I had the opportunity to be part of designing and painting a puppet theater/set for the Mountain Top Kids at Thomas Road Baptist Church.
I always love seeing how paint transforms a room into a magical place.
My friend Paula and I brainstormed ideas to fit the outdoor theme wanted for the room. The cabinet shop built and assembled…and we added the details with paint.
Here’s a BEFORE view of the room. And AFTER The cabin was created for the puppet show and to house storage supplies.Log painting 101. 🙂Log (beams) are ready to be added to the cabin.
I love how the corner storage area turned out…a faux wall disguised as a forest. 🙂We added lines to some of the trees to break up the solid green.Notice the puppet holes? Remember the No.5 I painted a few weeks ago!?! I snatched four of these circles out of the shop trash (I’m not ashamed to admit it!). 🙂
For the four tree puppet stands, we added a little creature to each.Several layers of paint to form the trees, flowers and Mountains.Perfect size flowers for the kids scattered throughout the room.
We used chalk to map out the details before adding the paint. The electronic lift made it so much easier to paint the walls up high. ♥
The teepee for puppet show adds so much to this set. Now, all we need is a canoe. 🙂
Thanks to FrogTape…and a very tall ladder, we were able to add a splash of color to the teepee. And what’s a teepee without baubles and feathers. So excited for the little ones to have this room. It is always so much fun to work on projects.
There is so much I want to get done in a day, but it does not always happen according to my plan, energy and/or time.
Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
Reminded by this verse that God is in control. Diane Bailey’s recent post, Looking Up, encourages us to look to the one who truly gives our lives purpose and meaning.
We all have routines and responsibilities in life. If you are like me, you struggle to get it all done too. Sometimes goals, plans, lists, and dreams take a backseat to the urgency of the day.
What if we can’t keep up with everyone and everything or get it all done?
Christin Ditchfield reminds us in her book, Letting It Go, to lean on Jesus for direction and peace. We are all flawed, but filled with the hope of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Brad Kellum says, “Jesus wasn’t saying that you and I don’t have enough goodness in our lives, He was saying we don’t have any without God helping us.”
What does this have to do with a kids puppet set and activity/play room?
Well, as I see the kids run around and play in this room, I see spirits free to soar. There are giggles and wonderment as hands make their way along the flowers and trees–stopping to kiss each before moving on to the next. They just gaze with big smiles. Not a care in this world. Only hearts filled with joy celebrating the moment.
Reminded to enjoy our Savior and come to Him with the heart of a child.
Rest in Him,
♥ Michelle

This is really special Michelle. The kids will have hours and hours of fun playing in this room. You did a great job and thanks to that cool electronic elevator you were able to reach the top. I can use one of those too.
